Overview
This database is designed to facilitate importing Ascii text data into Lotus Notes. It must be run from a Notes R 4.* client. It has been used to sucessfully import data into both Notes R 3.* and R 4.* databases.
It provides the following benefits over using the methods supplied by Lotus:
You do not need to create an additional view specifically for importing.
You can import records longer than the limit imposed by views (1536 characters, 999 in Unix environments).
You can import documents as Response documents (by using a sorted view and a unique key).
You can you delimited files, or standard Notes COL (.col) files.
You can easily test on a local database, then switch to a Server at a later time.
Getting Started
To create an Import Profile, switch to the Main View, and click on the button "Create Import Profile"
Click on each of the sections labeled Step 1 through Step 3.
Fill out all the fields. Those indicated with
are always required. Some fields are required based upon the answers you provide to some of the other fields. If you try to save or import and have not entered all the required information, the application will alert you.
When complete, click on the button located in the action bar at the top of the screen labeled " Import Now! ".
File Paths
When referencing file paths, use two slashes to represent a path on a Notes Server (the target database) and one slash to represent text files at the OS level.
Example: workflow\\workdb.nsf
c:\import\infile.txt
Delimited Files
Delimited files are Ascii files, that are separated with a character or more than one character. The fields can either all be surrounded by double quotes ( " ) or not. You can use a complex delimiter such as |*| or the default of comma ( , ).
If you choose to import a Delimited file, you must enter all the fields in the space provided ( next to the label
Fields
You can choose to skip a field in the source file by entering a comma ( , ).
COL Files
Standard Col files as described by Lotus can also be used. They are Ascii files which describe the layout of the file to be imported. The keywords
START, END and WIDTH must all be in Caps
(uppercase) to work properly.
Response Documents
You can import a set of records as Response documents.

supply the name of an indexed view. Only the first column will be used as the index, however, you can create a complex key by adding two fields together, with no spaces in between
